2-Bedroom Apartment Furnishing Plan — Budget, Priorities, and Online Configuration

Complete furnishing guide for 2-bedroom apartments: three budget levels (economic, medium, premium), room-by-room priorities, and how to configure everything online with real-time pricing.

Furnishing a 2-bedroom apartment is probably the most common furnishing challenge in Romania. Whether you have just purchased a new apartment or are renovating an old one, proper budget planning and the order of investments make the difference between a functional home and one that looks good but does not work. In this guide, we cover three budget levels and provide a concrete plan, room by room.

The three budget levels

The prices below refer exclusively to furniture (not appliances, lighting, or decorations) and are estimates for a standard 50-65 sqm apartment with 2 rooms, hallway, and bathroom:

  • Economic (under 15,000 RON) — functional furniture, standard melamine chipboard materials, basic hardware. Focus on essentials: bedroom wardrobe, bed, sofa
  • Medium (15,000-30,000 RON) — custom furniture with quality materials, Hafele hardware, centimeter-level customization. Fully covers all rooms with durable solutions
  • Premium (30,000-50,000 RON) — custom furniture with premium finishes (painted MDF, aluminum frames, mirrors), complete compartmentalization, advanced organization accessories

The bedroom: investment number 1

The bedroom is the room where you spend a third of your life. Investing in the bedroom should be priority number 1, regardless of budget.

The wardrobe (main closet)

The wardrobe is the centerpiece of the bedroom. A well-configured wardrobe replaces dressers, additional cabinets, and external organizers.

  • Economic: melamine chipboard wardrobe, 200-220 cm width, simple hinged doors, basic compartmentalization (rail + shelves). Budget: 2,500-4,000 RON
  • Medium: custom wardrobe, 250-300 cm width, hinged doors, Hafele hardware, interior drawers. Budget: 5,000-8,000 RON
  • Premium: custom wardrobe, maximum dimensions, painted MDF or mirrored doors, complete compartmentalization with pantographs and organizers. Budget: 8,000-14,000 RON

Configure the wardrobe and see the exact price.

Nightstands

Nightstands complete the bedroom and provide convenient storage. Two identical nightstands, one on each side of the bed, create symmetry and functionality.

  • Economic: simple shelf nightstands. Budget: 200-500 RON per pair
  • Medium: nightstands with 1-2 drawers, melamine chipboard matching the wardrobe color. Budget: 800-1,500 RON per pair
  • Premium: custom nightstands with soft-close drawers, MDF finish matching the wardrobe. Budget: 1,500-3,000 RON per pair

Configure nightstands in the sideboard configurator. Read the nightstand selection guide.

The living room: maximum visual impact

The living room is the showpiece space — the room all guests see. Here, appearance matters as much as functionality.

TV wall / bookcase

A well-proportioned TV wall ensemble completely transforms the living room. It includes: TV unit (low sideboard under the TV), upper cabinets or shelves, and possibly side units.

  • Economic: simple TV unit + wall shelf. Budget: 1,500-2,500 RON
  • Medium: custom TV wall ensemble (unit + side cabinets + shelves). Budget: 3,000-6,000 RON
  • Premium: complete TV wall with integrated lighting, MDF or ribbed fronts, material combinations. Budget: 6,000-12,000 RON

Configure the TV unit. Complete TV wall guide.

Living room sideboard

A living room sideboard provides storage for documents, special occasion tableware, or board games. It is usually placed on the wall opposite the TV.

  • Economic: standard sideboard with doors. Budget: 1,000-1,500 RON
  • Medium: custom sideboard with doors + drawers combination. Budget: 2,000-3,500 RON
  • Premium: custom sideboard with premium fronts, hidden handles. Budget: 3,500-6,000 RON

Configure the living room sideboard. Custom sideboard guide.

The hallway: first impression

The hallway is the first space you see when entering the apartment. A well-organized hallway eliminates the daily chaos of coats, shoes, and keys.

Hallway wardrobe

  • Economic: wall coat rack + simple shoe cabinet. Budget: 500-1,000 RON
  • Medium: custom hallway wardrobe, 100-150 cm, hinged doors with mirror. Budget: 2,500-4,500 RON
  • Premium: full hallway wardrobe (full available height and width), hinged doors with mirror. Budget: 4,500-8,000 RON

Configure the hallway wardrobe. Hallway wardrobe guide.

Shoe cabinet

A dedicated shoe cabinet keeps the hallway tidy. It can be integrated into the hallway wardrobe or separate.

  • Economic: open shoe shelf. Budget: 200-400 RON
  • Medium: shoe cabinet with hinged doors, 60-80 cm width. Budget: 800-1,500 RON
  • Premium: custom shoe cabinet integrated into the hallway ensemble. Budget: included in wardrobe ensemble

Shoe cabinet and shoe storage guide.

Second room: desk + storage

The second room in a 2-bedroom apartment usually serves as office / guest room / child's room. Flexibility is key.

Wardrobe / bookcase

  • Economic: standard 150 cm wardrobe, simple compartmentalization. Budget: 1,500-2,500 RON
  • Medium: custom wardrobe 150-200 cm with rail + shelves + drawers combination. Budget: 3,000-5,000 RON
  • Premium: wardrobe + integrated bookcase, with open zone for books and closed zone for clothes. Budget: 5,000-9,000 RON

Configure the wardrobe for the second room. Or configure a room divider with bookcase.

Desk area

  • Economic: simple desk + wall shelf. Budget: 500-1,000 RON
  • Medium: desk with drawers, wall-mounted cabinet above. Budget: 1,500-3,000 RON
  • Premium: desk ensemble integrated with side bookcase and wall-mounted units. Budget: 3,000-6,000 RON

Investment order: what to buy first

If your budget does not allow furnishing everything at once, here is the recommended priority order:

  1. Bedroom wardrobe — the most important piece of furniture, solves 80% of the storage problem
  2. Hallway wardrobe — eliminates daily chaos at the entrance
  3. TV unit / TV wall — defines the living room
  4. Nightstands — complete the bedroom
  5. Second room wardrobe — can be postponed if budget is limited
  6. Desk — last, unless you work from home

The advantage of online configuration

With the Téchne configurator, you can design each piece of furniture individually, see the exact real-time price, and plan purchases in stages. You do not have to order everything at once — configure, save the link, and come back when the budget allows.

All furniture types are available in the configurator:

Furnishing calendar: when to order what

If you are renovating the apartment, the furnishing order is crucial. Here is the optimal calendar:

  1. Before finishes — decide approximate dimensions of built-in wardrobes (hallway wardrobe, wardrobe). The electrician needs to know where NOT to put outlets (behind the wardrobe) and where to add extra outlets (wardrobe interior for vacuum, LED interior lighting)
  2. After finishes, before moving in — order the wardrobe and hallway wardrobe. These need 2-3 weeks production + delivery. Installation is easier in an empty apartment
  3. After moving in — order the TV unit, nightstands, and desk. Now you know exactly how you use the space and can adjust dimensions to the centimeter

With the Téchne configurator, you can save configurations and order them in stages — each piece with its own delivery timeline, without needing to order everything at once.

What does complete furnishing cost? Real examples

Here are three concrete scenarios for a 55 sqm 2-bedroom apartment:

Scenario 1: Economic budget (~12,000 RON)

  • Bedroom wardrobe 220x240x60 cm, white chipboard, hinged doors: ~3,500 RON
  • Hallway wardrobe 120x250x45 cm, hinged doors with mirror: ~2,800 RON
  • TV unit 150x50x40 cm: ~1,500 RON
  • 2 nightstands 40x45x35 cm with drawer: ~800 RON
  • Room 2 wardrobe 150x240x55 cm: ~2,500 RON
  • Desk 120x75x60 cm: ~900 RON

Scenario 2: Medium budget (~22,000 RON)

  • Bedroom wardrobe 280x250x65 cm, hinged doors with mirror: ~7,000 RON
  • Hallway wardrobe 160x260x50 cm, hinged doors: ~4,500 RON
  • TV ensemble 200x45x35 cm + side units: ~4,000 RON
  • 2 nightstands 50x55x40 cm with 2 drawers: ~1,500 RON
  • Wardrobe + bookcase room 2, 200x250x55 cm: ~4,000 RON
  • Desk with drawers + wall-mounted cabinet: ~2,000 RON

Prices are approximate and vary depending on chosen materials. For the exact price, configure in the Téchne configurator and see the real-time updated price. Read the complete furnishing cost guide.

Common apartment furnishing mistakes

From our experience with hundreds of clients who furnished complete apartments, here are the most frequent mistakes: The good news: the Téchne configurator prevents many of these mistakes automatically, validating dimensions and material compatibility in real time.

  • Buying furniture before measuring — sounds obvious, but many clients buy a wardrobe they like visually and then discover it does not fit. Measure first, configure second. Measurement guide
  • Saving on hardware — cheap hardware (hinges without damping, partial-extension slides) degrades quickly. After 2-3 years, doors squeak, drawers jam. Investing in quality hardware pays for itself over the furniture's lifespan. Hardware guide
  • Choosing colors on screen, not on physical samples — colors on monitors differ from reality. If choosing online, use the AR function to see how the material looks in your real room, under your lighting. Color selection guide
  • Ignoring circulation spaces — a 70 cm deep wardrobe seems similar to a 60 cm one on paper, but those 10 cm feel enormous in a 12 sqm bedroom. Calculate passage spaces before finalizing dimensions
  • Buying everything at once without prioritizing — if the budget is limited, first buy essential pieces at good quality, and complete later. It is better to have a premium wardrobe and a temporary cheap desk than everything at medium quality

Smart savings tips

  • Melamine chipboard for body, MDF only for fronts — the body is not visible when doors are closed. Choose chipboard for the body and invest in premium fronts (painted MDF, mirror) only where it matters visually
  • Hinged doors offer the best value — complete interior access, minimal maintenance, and simple installation
  • HDF back instead of 18 mm panel — if the wardrobe sits against a wall, the HDF back is sufficient and costs significantly less. Wardrobe back panel guide
  • Configure and save — in the Téchne configurator, you can save multiple variants of the same wardrobe and compare prices. Adjust dimensions, materials, and compartmentalization until you find the optimal quality-price ratio
