How to Edit Furniture Already Placed in the Room Planner
Placed your wardrobe in the room and want a different width or material? The Edit button reopens your configuration; room and cart update automatically.
Planning a room is not a straight line — it's a back-and-forth: you configure a wardrobe, see it in the room, realise the spot by the window calls for something narrower and taller, adjust, look again. The good news: in the Téchne Room Planner, that back-and-forth is a single button: „Edit”. Any piece already placed in your room reopens in the configurator, you adjust it, and the room updates itself — nothing starts over. This guide walks you through exactly how the flow works.
The flow in short
Say you've configured a wardrobe, added it to the cart and placed it in your room in the Room Planner. You see it next to the window and something's off — maybe the width, maybe the front colour against your wall. From here:
- Press „Edit” on that piece.
- The configurator opens with your exact configuration — dimensions, materials, interior layout, everything you set.
- Change what you want and press „Save changes”.
- Back in the Room Planner, the piece in your room has updated: new 3D model, new dimensions, and the cart shows the recalculated price.
No reconfiguring from scratch, no duplicate items in the cart, no gap between what you see in the room and what you order.
Where the „Edit” button lives
There are two places, for two ways of working:
- In the Room Planner's item list — the panel showing every piece from your cart. The quick route when you know exactly which piece needs adjusting.
- Directly on the piece, in the 3D scene — select it in the room and use „Edit in configurator”. The natural route when you've just spotted the problem with your own eyes, from the room's angle.
What you can change
Everything you can set in a fresh configuration: dimensions (width, height, depth), materials and colours, door types, interior layout, accessories. The piece stays the same cart entry — only its contents change. That's the difference between editing and starting over: in a room with four or five pieces, the time saved is enormous.
Cart sync: everything stays aligned
The Room Planner and the shopping cart work off the same list of pieces, in both directions: what you change through the edit flow shows up in the cart at the new price, and pieces added to the cart can be brought into the room at any time. To avoid getting lost between „Wardrobe 1” and „Wardrobe 2”, rename your pieces clearly — „Bedroom wardrobe, window side”, „Hallway sideboard” — as shown in our cart organisation guide. The name then follows you everywhere: planner, checkout, e-mails and assembly day.
Practical tips for your adjustment session
- Work large to small: lock in the big pieces' dimensions first (wardrobe, bookcase), then refine materials and interiors. A width change moves the neighbours; a colour change doesn't.
- Look from real angles: rotate the camera to eye level, from the doorway and from the bed — that's where true proportions show, not in the top-down view.
- Wall-mounted pieces stay on the wall: the planner keeps them anchored while you reposition, so you can tune the mounting height without the piece „falling” out of place.
- Check doors and walkways: leave room for the furniture's open doors and for moving through the room — the classic rule of about 60 cm for a comfortable corridor applies in 3D too.
Why this flow matters
The most expensive mistakes in custom furniture don't come from manufacturing — they come from planning: the piece that's perfect on paper but doesn't breathe in the room. When you can adjust any piece straight from the room's context — and instantly see the effect on both space and price — ordering becomes an informed decision, not a hope.
