Trouser Rack: Side Pull-Out or Central? A Buying Guide 2026

Trousers are the garment that suffers most in a poorly organised wardrobe: folded on a shelf they develop knee creases, on regular hangers they eat up precious height, and stacks collapse the moment you pull out the bottom pair. How the pull-out side trouser rack works

The side rack mounts on the column's side panels and slides out towards you like an open drawer: a metal frame with parallel bars, each pair of trousers draped flat and visible. It closes with soft-close damping, gliding back silently. Because it attaches to both side panels, it needs precise column widths: it fits columns with an internal width of 76.4 / 86.4 / 96.4 cm — that is, with 18 mm board, columns of roughly 80 / 90 / 100 cm outside. Vertically, allow at least 60 cm of free space.

How the central multi trouser hanger works

The central hanger is a frame with swing arms on which trousers hang side by side, mounted centrally in the column, also with damped closing. Its big advantage is flexibility: it doesn't demand fixed widths, but accepts any column with an internal width between 68 and 96 cm, at a depth of at least about 48.5 cm. It's the solution for layouts that are already settled, where you don't want to move the partitions.

The practical difference: what happens to your column width

Here the configurator works for you, but differently for each system:

• With the side rack, when you drop it into a column, the column width snaps automatically to the nearest compatible value (80 / 90 / 100 cm) and stays locked while the element is present. The remaining width is redistributed to neighbouring columns — you see the effect instantly in 3D.
• With the central hanger, the column stays untouched: if its width falls within the 68–96 cm range, the element simply becomes available. Outside the range, the configurator shows it as unavailable.

The rule of thumb: building your wardrobe from scratch, either works; adding organisation to a layout you love, the central hanger adapts to the column rather than the other way around.

Capacity, access and creasing

Both systems keep trousers draped flat over a bar, so you avoid the knee crease that shelf-folding leaves. The differences show in daily use:

• Access: the side rack slides fully out of the column — you see every pair from above and pick at a glance. With the central hanger you leaf through the arms like pages of a book; very convenient for frequently worn pairs kept at the front.
• Fabrics: draping cloths (wool, blends) look impeccable on both; stiff denim is happy anywhere, folded included — no need to sacrifice premium space for it.
• Height used: both need around 60 cm free, about the same as two drawers — plan them below the hanging zone, at hand height.

Which one suits your wardrobe

• Large trouser collection and a dedicated column: the side rack, in an 80–100 cm column — full extension makes the difference beyond 10 pairs.
• Fixed layout, non-standard widths: the central hanger — it fits any 68–96 cm column without altering your compartments.
• Combinations: both stack with other interior elements — a hanging rail above, drawers or pull-out baskets below. The configurator validates placement automatically.
