Recessed sockets with USB for furniture: a guide for desks, kitchens and bedrooms
How to pick the right recessed socket for a worktop, desk or nightstand: the socket count, USB A vs USB C, finishes and real models from the Téchne shop.
The phone charges on the kitchen worktop, the laptop lives with an extension cord stretched across the desk, and behind the nightstand hangs a tangle of cables. Sound familiar? Recessed furniture sockets solve exactly this problem elegantly: power arrives where you actually use it, not where the wall socket happened to be. We recently added a dedicated category of recessed sockets to the Téchne shop — 20 models from Riex, SFL and ASA Plastici — and in this guide we show you how to choose the right one.
Why sockets in furniture, not just in walls
When furniture is made to measure, socket positions can be planned together with it, instead of adapted afterwards. The advantages are concrete:
- Ergonomics — you charge your phone on the nightstand or plug in the laptop right at desk level, without crawling under the desk.
- Aesthetics — no visible extension cords or cables crossing the room; the socket is integrated into the cabinet, in a finish that matches the furniture.
- Built-in USB ports — many models charge directly via USB A or USB C, so chargers no longer occupy your Schuko outlets.
Types of recessed sockets
Worktop and cabinet sockets
These are the classic models, mounted in the desk top, the kitchen worktop or the cabinet body. Our category includes, for example:

- Riex ED12 — 4 Schuko outlets plus a fast USB A + USB C charger, 2 m cable — around 242 RON; our pick for desks;

- SFL Brick — 3 Schuko outlets and 2 USB A ports, stainless steel — around 589 RON;
- SFL Cizo — 2 Schuko outlets and 2 USB A ports, in matt white or matt black — the premium end of the category, around 787–809 RON.
USB-only charging points
If you do not need Schuko outlets, just charging, there are compact solutions that take up very little space: ASA Plastici Versapick is a square charging point with USB A + USB C and a metal body, available in matt black, matt white or stainless steel — around 282 RON. It integrates discreetly into a nightstand, a shelf next to the bed or a desk drawer — exactly where the phone spends the night.
Connection: plug cable or GST connector
Most models come with a 2 m cable with a plug — you mount them in the furniture and plug them into an existing wall socket, with no changes to the electrical installation. The Riex ED56 and ED57 models instead come with a 0.4 m GST connector, designed for integration into the furniture's wiring. For any fixed connection to the house installation, call a licensed electrician.
How to choose the right model
- Number of outlets — for a desk we recommend at least 3–4 Schuko outlets (laptop, monitor, lamp) plus USB; for a nightstand a USB charging point is enough.
- USB A or USB C — current phones fast-charge over USB C; the Riex ED12, ED15 and ED55 models have a fast charger with both ports.
- Finish — matt black for desks and dark furniture, matt white for light furniture, stainless steel or brushed aluminium next to kitchen appliances. The same principles we detailed in our handle finish comparison apply here: visible hardware looks best when treated consistently.
- Socket standard — besides Schuko, a few models (Riex ED56, SFL Cizo) also exist with French-type outlets, for projects outside Romania.
Where to integrate them in Téchne furniture
Recessed sockets make sense wherever you use devices daily: in the home office — on the desktop or in the cabinet below; in wall-mounted cabinets in the living room, next to the TV area; in sideboards and nightstands, for overnight charging; in the walk-in wardrobe, next to the mirror. A recessed socket costs between roughly 159 and 809 RON, depending on outlet count, USB ports and finish — a small investment relative to the daily comfort of having power exactly where you need it. The simple rule: count the devices you use in that spot, add one spare outlet, and pick the finish that blends into the furniture.
