Furniture for studio apartments -- compact custom solutions
Custom furniture solutions for 30-45 sqm studio apartments: slim wardrobes, vertical storage, room dividers, and pieces configured to exact dimensions.
A 30-45 sqm studio apartment can be surprisingly functional when the furniture is designed with care. Instead of buying off-the-shelf pieces that waste precious space, custom furniture lets you make the most of every centimetre -- including awkward corners, narrow walls, and under-window gaps. In this guide, we explore solutions you can configure directly in the Techne configurator, tailored perfectly for studio living.
Why standard furniture fails in a studio
Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in fixed dimensions -- typically 60 cm deep, 180 cm wide, 220 cm tall. In a studio, every centimetre matters. A 60 cm deep wardrobe in a 100 cm wide hallway blocks passage. A 40 cm shelf leaves a useless 12 cm gap against the wall.
The solution is straightforward: configure furniture to match your exact measurements. A slim 35 cm deep wardrobe fits an 80 cm hallway while still offering ample room for folded clothing, accessories, and shoes. A wall-mounted cabinet at just 25 cm deep creates storage without occupying any floor space at all.
Slim wardrobes -- 35 cm depth
Wardrobes with a 35 cm depth are ideal for studios. At this depth, you can store folded clothes on shelves, shoe boxes, bed linen, and accessories. While a classic hanging rail requires at least 50 cm, you can use front-facing rails mounted perpendicular to the back panel -- these hold 5-8 hangers per section.
In the configurator, select a 35 cm depth and build your interior with shelves spaced every 30-35 cm. Add a drawer or two in the lower section for small items. The result: a discreet wardrobe with surprising capacity.
The optimal width for a studio slim wardrobe is between 120 and 200 cm. Up to 120 cm, a single sliding door works well; above 120 cm, two sliding doors with aluminium profiles give comfortable access without needing clearance in front.
Vertical storage -- use the full wall height
Studio walls are typically 250-260 cm tall. A standard 220 cm wardrobe leaves 30-40 cm of wasted space above. Configure your wardrobe floor-to-ceiling -- at 250 or 260 cm -- and add an enclosed upper compartment for seasonal items: duvets, winter clothes, luggage.
Another vertical trick: floating cabinets. Mounted at 120-140 cm from the floor, they free the space underneath for a chair, a bicycle, or simply create a feeling of openness. They can be 80-120 cm wide and 35 cm deep -- enough for books, documents, and daily essentials.
Room dividers with built-in storage
In an open-plan studio with no partition walls, furniture can define zones without closing off the space. A storage divider at 120 cm height, placed between the living area and bedroom, offers shelving on both sides while clearly separating the two zones.
Recommended configuration:
- Height: 120 cm (allows light to pass above)
- Width: 150-200 cm (spanning the dividing line)
- Depth: 40-45 cm (enough for shelves on both sides)
- No doors -- open compartments on the living side, enclosed shelves on the bedroom side
Alternatively, a full 220 cm tall wardrobe with doors on the bedroom side and decorative niches on the living side works as a complete wall -- but with double the storage.
Multifunctional furniture -- beds with storage
In a studio, the bed occupies the most space. A bed frame with built-in drawers or a lift-up mattress transforms the area under your bed into generous storage. Combine this with a wall wardrobe configured to the exact width of the remaining niche, and you get an integrated system with zero wasted space.
Another efficient concept: a fold-down desk mounted on a wardrobe. A front panel that folds down becomes a desk; when not in use, it closes and looks like a regular wardrobe door. Ideal size for a fold-down desk: 80 cm wide, 50 cm deep -- enough for a laptop and a notebook.
Configuration tips for small spaces
When designing in the Techne configurator, keep these principles in mind:
- Sliding doors save space -- they need no opening arc, perfect for hallways and small bedrooms
- Light colours enlarge the space visually -- white matte, natural oak, or birch create a sense of openness
- Mirror doors reflect light and add depth -- available on sliding doors in the configurator
- 35 cm depth is sufficient for most storage needs in a studio
- Maximise height -- configure up to the ceiling line for bonus storage
How much does studio furniture cost?
The price depends on dimensions, door type, and finishes. A slim wardrobe at 35 cm depth, 150 cm width, and 230 cm height with melamine sliding doors starts at around 700 EUR. Upgrading to painted MDF or fluted MDF doors increases the price proportionally. Visit our pricing page for details and real examples.
Your studio deserves furniture designed for it, not cobbled together from compromises. Configure your own slim wardrobe, room divider, or vertical storage system directly in the Techne 3D configurator -- you can set the depth to 35 cm, choose the interior layout, and see the result in real time. The first step toward an organised studio is just a click away.
